Political protest poster designs - Graphic "Shouts"

Time to wake up

Stagnant status - broadcast your opinion

Mother nature's problem child

Conservatives - All root stem from the same old tree

Economic freeze - thaw your thoughts

Pull the plug on old fossils

Voices like rain - create a downpour

ConDem - cutting everything but the crap

Job search - broken links - broken promises

Current location - unemployment line

Moral compass broken - no sense of direction

Spinning the same old record - No repeat guarantee

Bombs falling? blame gravity - arrogance of mass destruction

Leaders with silver tongues - listen but don't be fooled

NHS healthcare cuts - going under the knife

Tag government buildings - graffiti walls

Stop the rich from cutting down every last tree - it's up to you and me

When I open my internet browser, everyday I am greeted by a barrage of bleak news, each article screaming injustice. Sometimes these make me feel angry or upset about the state of the world, but what worries me more is not seeing anyone else expressing these emotions. Why are today's current issues not being addressed at the forefront of our culture? Where are the new bands damning these times with subversive lyrics? Which wall holds the latest artwork bleeding in paint and conveying outrage at the greed and deceit that plagues the present?!

And if these expressions are no longer relevant in today's society, then where are the hostile tweets or the raging status updates condemning the latest reports of greed, injustice and inequality? Or are these vessels of communication to blame for this stagnant silence? Is society just sitting on the fence?

These posters are a result of these thoughts.

Fractured Politics - poster design

A political poster I knocked together this evening. A statement about our fractured politics at present. No one needs x-ray vision to see this, the cracks are beginning to show and although minor scrapes and cuts can be healed over time this wound needs a strong cast to reset the brake before irreversible damage is done!

I've put a larger sized version of this poster on my Flickr account >

Star Wars Parody Posters: Global Financial Crisis

Here are some politically motivated posters, parodying the iconic Star Wars scrolling intro text.

I decided to write three short statements based on the events unfolding around the financial crisis, but narrate the situation as if it was the preface to a Star Wars saga.

The statements remain scathing and cynical yet bare a slightly comical attitude towards the recession, and it doesn't take too much of an imagination to see the similarities between this real life event and George Lucas' s fictional universe of scum and villainy!

It often feels like our political leaders are living on a different planet to us anyway… sometimes light-years away!

2057 Climate Change Calendar

I designed this calendar in 2007 to raise awareness about the reported implications of climate change 50 years on if we did not take enough action to prevent its predicted course.

Using the theme of sport to highlight how extreme weather conditions could affect human endurance, from beach volleyball in the scorching month of November to freestyle swimming during summer floods, the message is brought across with the surreal pairing of brightly-coloured, Olympic-esque illustrations and the serious predictions given by scientists. I think the context of humans enduring physical suffering, not for their sport but for their actual survival, helps to convey a far more poignant message. While the calendar aspect also addresses the associations we have with seasonal weather conditions, if we cease to alter our behaviour towards the environment then we may very well see a dramatic shift in these annual patterns. Far worse than simply April showers in May!

A Recipe For Disaster

I created these posters back in 2007 as part of my final year project at university. The intention was to create a series of attention-grabbing statements, raising awareness about the important social and political topics unfolding at the time. The result was an uncompromising set of written expressions with thought-provoking and unwavering messages that (unfortunately) even to this day remain relevant to the on-going issues they address.

Font Aid V: Made For Japan

'Font Aid V: Made For Japan' is a collaborative design community project which aims to help raise funds for victims of the earthquake and tsunami that struck on 11th March 2011.

My first glyph design is a representation of the scale 9 Earthquake that devastated Japan, fracturing the country and leaving it to be pieced back together through aid and support.

While the second glyph hints at the Tsunami and the dramatic effect it had inland, while also communicating hope as the Eastern Sun rises once again over the waves and horizon.

Combined together these two glyph designs form "9.0" (the magnitude of the event), portraying both the severity and aftermath of the situation, yet also expressing optimism and hope for Japan in the future.
